A Bilingual Production House
Audiofilia Studios started with a simple problem: as an author, I couldn’t find a production studio near home that treated Spanish-language audiobooks as more than a niche exception. So I built one.
Before I asked any author to trust me with their book, I wanted to trust myself with mine. Receta para viajar: Travesías de una identidad mestiza, my own collection of personal essays, became Audiofilia’s first production. It’s not a demo reel recorded for the sake of having one. It’s the same process, the same standards, and the same care every future client’s book will get.
Introducing Receta para viajar
Receta para viajar: Travesías de una identidad mestiza is a memoir in Spanish about the hunger to leave. First, as a child watching others disappear beyond an airport wall, and years later as an adult woman building a life far from the Ecuador in which she grew up, Silvia Mejía explores how travel can begin as desire and end in privilege, rupture, reinvention, and absence.
Through autobiographical narratives set in Ecuador, Europe, and North America, the book examines the forces that dictate who can cross borders freely and who cannot—class, race, ethnicity, gender, and other colonial imaginaries that still shape contemporary societies—and asks, without sentimentality, whether it is possible to shed prejudice and see beyond the structures that have assigned us a particular place in the world.
About the Author
Silvia Mejía (Quito, Ecuador) is a writer and university professor of Spanish and Latin American literature and film. She has also worked as a journalist for outlets in Ecuador, France, El Salvador, and the United States. She lives in Albany, New York, where she also founded Audiofilia Studios.
